Hanlong Chen

I’m an incoming PhD student in Biostatistics at the University of Toronto, where I will continue working with Dr. Aya Mitani. I received my Honours BSc in Mathematics & Statistics from the University of Toronto in 2024 and my MSc in Biostatistics in 2026. My MSc thesis focused on dynamic prediction of tooth loss using landmark models for clustered survival data.

For my PhD, I hope to explore how deep learning can be combined with methods for survival and longitudinal data to improve dynamic prediction in health research.

Beyond my thesis, I work with Dr. Malcolm Binns at Baycrest’s Rotman Research Institute on cognitive heterogeneity in dementia. I also work with Dr. Camellia Zakaria at SensAI Labs on missing-data methods and metabolic phenotyping using CPCSSN electronic health records.
